Empowering the 1.5 million Puerto Ricans we serve with sustainable solutions such as rooftop solar is an important part of building the future of Puerto Rico together. LUMA has increased renewable energy capacity by 42% from December 2021 to February 2022, as compared to June 2021, due in no small part to its customers’ interest in rooftop solar.
Since LUMA assumed operations of Puerto Rico’s transmission and distribution system, we have connected over 28,000 customers to rooftop solar, representing 145 MW of renewable energy. Every day, we are working to make foundational improvements to the underlying grid system to serve as a strong backbone to support the further integration of rooftop solar systems. Not only can customers produce power to run their own homes, but they can also sell back excess electricity to the grid to offset usage at other times. Adding rooftop solar to your home or business can also provide greater grid independence in the event of natural disasters or loss of grid power. Not only will you be saving money on your electricity bill, but helping Puerto Ricans around you by producing clean energy for the island.
